Almost a century old, this lakefront home has been a gathering space for family and friends for decades. With a love for hosting, the homeowners desired to create a space that would allow warmth and hospitality to flow seamlessly throughout the main level, while respecting the age and history within. We opened up the kitchen, careful to preserve a sense of connection through the use of arched openings and original millwork. Antique doors—original to the home—were integrated in new openings, and dark woodwork is an unexpected tie between the old and the new. Professional stainless appliances are a modern touch in a classic kitchen, and the use of color adds a layer of connection to the outdoors. Integrated wine, beer, and sparkling water taps are a truly custom feature within the bar area, and offer a self serve station for guests. Adjacent, a vintage glass pocket door leads to a laundry and mudroom, overhauled to create hard-working function and tie in with the kitchen’s aesthetic. In the rest of the living space, we maintained a small office and library, infusing both areas with moody color and an updated aesthetic.
